MORE PARALLELS
In the book of Jeremiah (particularly the first three chapters), Almighty God speaks to Judah and Israel through his young prophet Jeremiah. After all of the wonderful things that God had given both nations, after all of the miracles that He had performed on their behalf, after His devotion to them and after His love for them . . . . . they disappointed the Lord their God. Instead of walking in a way pleasing to God they chased after their own desires. They created their own gods of wood and stone. It's obvious to me that they created these gods in order to justify in their own minds their despicable behavior. On several occasions in this passage He refers to them as whores. In the final verses of the third chapter there is the weeping of repentance. As you may read below;
A voice on the bare heights is heard,
the weeping and pleading of Israel's sons
because they have perverted their way;
they have forgotten the LORD their God.
“Return, O faithless sons;
I will heal your faithlessness.”
“Behold, we come to you,
for you are the LORD our God.
Truly the hills are a delusion,
the orgies on the mountains.
Truly in the LORD our God
is the salvation of Israel.”
“But from our youth the shameful thing has devoured all for which our fathers labored, their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters. Let us lie down in our shame, and let our dishonor cover us. For we have sinned against the LORD our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even to this day, and we have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God.”
~Jeremiah 3: 21-25 ESV
Can you see a parallel between then and now in America? I encourage you to read the first three chapters of Jeremiah and see if you can see similar things presently taking place here in the USA. It appears to me that our nation's behavior parallels that of ancient Israel and Judah. ~Adverse Yaw
