Two great examples of this took place in Susa, which is an old city that was located in what is now Western Iran. Both stories come from the book of Esther.
Because of her arrogance and self-centeredness Queen Vashti failed to respond to a request of her King, King Ahasuerus. Her thoughts about herself were so focused that she refused to offer an explanation of why she didn’t respond. Queen Vashti lost her throne because of her arrogance. She was in bondage to her own self-image which was evidently a false one.
Haman is another example of a person who was so deceived and in bondage of self-centeredness that it cost him his life at the end of a rope from gallows that he built for another.
The Book of Esther is a great read with many characters, some more noble than others. I recommend it!
SELF-CENTEREDNESS IS BONDAGE!
Self-centeredness is bondage and not freedom. Freedom is knowing the truth.
Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.
